STARBASE Alpena interactive touchscreen kiosks

STARBASE Alpena—located in Alpena, MI—is a Department of Defense (DoD) community outreach program that offers classrooms of fifth grade students an inspiring, five-day, 25-hour, hands-on curriculum that emphasizes the application of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

I helped to design and develop four interactive training kiosks for STARBASE Alpena. I storyboarded each kiosk, created all the custom art and HTML5 animations, and worked with a programmer to integrate custom Javascript interactions.

Students team up in small groups and interact with these kiosks in order to reinforce STEM curriculum being taught at STARBASE Alpena. The four kiosks feature activities teaching:

1. Bernoulli’s Principle.
2. Area, Volume, and Mass.
3. Newton’s Laws.
4. Charting and Graphing.

Screenshots and links to demo the kiosks follow. NOTE: These kiosks were programmed for a closed environment, running locally in the Google Chrome web browser. As there was no need to test for other browsers, please view in Chrome on a desktop computer to best simulate the kiosk experience.
